I've got that big contract, now I’ve got to live up to it. I need to be ripping off 35-, 40-yard runs week after week. That's not happening, and all of a sudden there's that tendency to try to make something big when it's not really there."

Johnston's really perceptive about this. Sort of.)

Regarding stretching, maybe Giants trainers aren't up on the latest thinking, which goes like this (from an Oct. 2008 New York Times story):

"Science, however, has moved on. Researchers now believe that some of the more entrenched elements of many athletes’ warm-up regimens are not only a waste of time but actually bad for you. The old presumption that holding a stretch for 20 to 30 seconds — known as static stretching — primes muscles for a workout is dead wrong. It actually weakens them."

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/02/sports/playmagazine/112pewarm.htmlRuss Wellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00598728646589830119noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4126451417395202308.post-9010604362045892502009-09-30T12:48:38.503-04:002009-09-30T12:48:38.503-04:00Ahmad is

He doesn't look as powerful as he used to be. Just a few minutes ago I asked TC what he thought Jacobs problem was. His answer " nothing I want to talk about here (in the press conference). My translation (Ralph V's) of that is there is SOMETHING going on with Jacobs although we don't know what yet.Whatever it is, he's not barreling over opponents the way he used to. He doesn't seem as aggressive as he once was. That will always bulk up the muscle and because of that they are susceptible to muscle pulls and hamstring strains.

The hamstrings are frequently injured while an athlete executes a sudden, explosive movement, sometimes accompanied by a change of direction.

That is precisely what football players do.

We all know that Ronnie Barnes is considered tops in his field and stretching is also part of the training regimen.

In general terms, athletes in their 20's probably are not as susceptible to that injury, but we are talking about professional football players here.

Therefore, I do not know if the Giants dropped the ball here. It just might be more of a occupational hazard or a matter of coincidence of the amount of hamstring injuries this season.Mitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02151576898703507305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4126451417395202308.post-6356771289880458392009-09-30T08:19:15.612-04:002009-09-30T08:19:15.612-04:00If Ronnie Barnes was not still with the team I wou...If Ronnie Barnes was not still with the team I would give what is being said about the training staff more weight. When I told the instructor that the Giants had seven players who at one time or another had hamstring problems, she jokingly (all humor is based in truth) said it's because they aren't in here taking her class. When class was over we talked about it more and she was dead serious in saying that there is no way people in their 20's should be having hamstring problems, no less ATHLETES in their 20's. The matter of fact professional certainty she had to offer about that was stark. And the large numbers (8 if you count Rocky Bernard, who had the problem before training camp on his own watch) make it obvious that someone dropped the ball.Andy F.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07020742034297033233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4126451417395202308.post-75555999865530578212009-09-30T06:37:59.293-04:002009-09-30T06:37:59.293-04:00You can only play who is on your schedule. Is that...You can only play who is on your schedule. Is that cliche? Of course...

So, having said that...being 3-0 is exactly what we should be. Looking back, if we had lost to Dallas....then 2-1 would have been very disappointing knowing what we know now about Dallas.

So...what do we really know about Big Blue?

We know that we have the ability to play any game the other team wants to. If they put 8 in the box...well, we can beat you with our passing game. If the opponent play it straight up we will pound you on the ground. You want to blitz from the secondary or send an extra LB....we have a QB and the receivers who will quickly recognize it and adjust accordingly.

Defensively, early on we have shown big play ability with 2 TD's in 3 games.

We need to get healthy. Let me say that again. We need to get healthy.

The fact that we are not whole right now leads me to believe that we will not approach these next two games loosely. We are not healthy enough to fall into the "Trap Game" syndrome. TC will not allow it. He could be the most detailed oriented coach in the league.

It seems we might be getting some players back this week. Today, let us see who practices.

Our schedule gets REALLY tough beginning with Week 6!!!!

I don't think we will look past these next two...I really don't.

"One week at a time" as Andy says should be our mantra.

but Andy.... although Kansas City BBQ is great...I can't help but take a peek at November 1st. I, as a fan can do this.. .the players cannot.

That will be our first "BIG GAME" for sure! That is when some "roasted eagle" will be on our menus.Mitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02151576898703507305noreply@blogger.com
