Free Agency approaches

and word is Gibril will likely get 'overpaid' by one of 'many' suitors. Translated, the Giants will likely get outbid. Strahan will take more time to make his decision on whether to come back.

I would love Wilson to come back a NY Giant. But Reese has to do what he has to do, and that means letting him walk. Safeties are NOT a skill position in the NFL. These are the stresses of holding the team together. A team like the Eagles knows that they win twice if they drive up the cost enough to make us drop out of the arms race for his services. Losing a safety is not as critical as losing a CB or Lineman.

I agree that safeties are relatively expendable, but Gibril is such a good blitzer that he has more value to us than he would to most other teams. But yeah, we're probably gonna lose him.

The impact of his loss will be exacerbated by the fact that Butler is horrendous -- I'd be pretty disappointed if he's starting safety next year. So basically, we have to fill two safety spots next year.

I guess Johnson can capably man one of those spots, but who else do we have? Who else is available?

Last Friday's entry (2008 The Year Ahead) discussed this and unfortunately the situation has only become more certain about Wilson's loss. I think Wilson would be a good upgrade for many, and for the Eagles in particular it probably makes a great deal of sense.

Since Free Agency began, there have been only TWO teams that have repeated. This is a challenge to not only the players and coaches, but also to the front office to keep the team from getting totally ripped apart by money. George Young said it best- It's always about the money.
