In Part I last Tuesday, Wonder talked about the cream of the draft class and specifically the possibility of:
1) trading up to the top 5-10 for a Crabtree if he falls
2) trading up to the top 15-20 for Heyward-Bey if he is available there
Part II: A wider discussion by Wonder
If "all" gone, Wonder actually likes Robiske (Ohio State) and Kenny Britt (WR) to Jints in first round and/or to Jets in 2nd... If no Burress, and no trade for Boldin, likes NYG to draft Robiske..he's "NFL-ready"...more so than anyone but Crabtree.
Wonder sleeper: Dominique Edison, WR, Jints 2nd round or Jets/jints 3rd... 60-90th pick...just have to understand it will take him a couple of years to develop..after that, watch out...
Still...Crabtree, Maclin, H-Bey, Nicks...also like Louis Murphy, FLA, late 2nd-3rd...guy just "got it" for the Gators...don't know if Harvin is right for either as Leon/Bradshaw that type of player..he would be UNBELIEVABLE for the Colts on that turf with Peyton...Colts should GRAB HIM and/or move up to get him...can run PLUS play in the slot..could make that offense unstoppable at home...lots of draws, screens, swings...
Also, these experts don't know sh*t...the best RB from this draft will be D. Brown..assuming he's on decent team with decent line...f Wells and Moreno...Broncos should draft Brown in 2nd round if he's avail...another Terrell Davis.
Summary: For Jints, THEY should use their 2nd round pick from N.O. to grab BROWN...trust me on this one...in 2-3 yrs., after Jacobs has been abused, Brown will be a GREAT pro..in the meantime, he can be "WIND"...Jints should ALSO get the best WR avail at end of 1st round assuming "he's" still avail...nicks, bey, britt, robiskie, etc...UNLESS LB Maualuga/USC is still available.

Wonder Draft Thoughts Part II

I agree with Wonder except I think we should move up to get Ray M. and draft the best available of the WR in the 2nd. Pierce has lost a step and to have a MLB like him as an understudy would be huge. Cant wait to see what happens!!! Go G-men
I for one am tired of all the resources that keep getting thrown out to WR. We have Smith, Moss, Maningham and Hixon, all aged 22-25 years old, two 2's and a 3, DRAFT LBer! Those 4 need to get it done, or for Gilbride to adapt to his talent and use Boss and Bradshaw more as receivers too. LBer suits me just fine.
Looks like Wonder's outlook is reaching to fill a need. I agree up to Robiskie and Britt in the 1st round. I think 1 of the 2 will be available in the 2nd round. Robiskie impresses me but his ceiling is much lower than the others.
Would hat to pick for a need and pay too much for it. Get the best available if you can't trade up for Crabtree, Maualuga or Hayward-Bey. What about Matthews from USC....smart, athletic and great technique?
Andy,
LB, LB, LB, LB. You'd have us building the perfect D, and leave an anemic O. We were successful early in 2008 because the O was
leading the NFC in pts/game.
Now that we've lost Plax & Toomer,
we need the downfield threat to counter defenses putting 8-9 men in the box. We cant score inside the Green Zone. If JR is not willing to dump Gillbrown, then he must give him the essential tools, i.e. replace Burress. Gillbrown was very successful with Burress , this is probably why he's still here. Smith, Moss and Mham are not the answer, maybe Hixon is.
This must be the first priority. If the right WR is not available, then go LB. However, with the DL talent we have now, I could play LB for the NYG.
1st round will probably be lb, wr, or ol and two 2nd rounds will be whatever was not chosen in the 1st. later on s is a need and maybe te. anything else is development.
i expect at least 3 draft picks to be traded. if we trade up in the 1st round it will be for a lb or wr.
Robieski is more of a sleeper, a few people talk about him late 2nd early third round if you miss out of the top WR guys. Something about Crabtree just seems off to me. Calvin Johnson is a complete freak Crabtree doesnt come off the same way. Nicks is more of a complete receiver than Bey but Bey is the deep threat that we need.
Forget Moss, is 4 years he hasn't done shit. Hixon and Smith start, Manningham 3 and Bey 4 would work for me. If you stack 8 guys in the box Hixon can burn you. Manningham and Smith are the same type of receiver although i still havent seen Manningham to much, 1 catch 6 yards. With Boss being a bigger threat that should keep the safety busy opening it more for the WR. Maybe Bradshaw can be a Reggie Bush type out of the backfield. If 44 can get 2-3 catches a game then there would be just so many targets we wouldnt need a No 1 receiver next year.
Manningham isn't the same type of receiver as smith. Smith is a short yardage WR, Manningham has tons of vertical speed. When he was at UMich, he was one of the top deep threats in the country. Also, Sinorice Moss is better than everyone thinks. Every time he got into the game last year, he made plays. Hixon is good but when plax was suspended, he was clearly nervous about being a full time starter. If Hixon can look like he did when plax was just injured, we actually already have the WR stable we need. I def like Nicks tho, he would be a good addition. I agree about Crabtree, he doesn't seem like a guaranteed NFL stud.
Smith will be a stud as a starter. Hixon could be very good, but he needs to adjust to being a starter full time and we need to bring him back to returning kicks, he is most deadly (even as a receiver) in games where he is taking kickoff returns (see game vs. Cardinals).
Manningham and Smith are possesion receivers. What they said about Manningham was that he doesnt have blazing speed but he creates separation via great route running. That describes Smith pretty good too.
craig,
manningham ran a slow 4.59 at the nfl combine, but ran a fast 4.38 at the michigan pro-day workout. look at all the video of him blowing by defenders in college. he is 5 ft 11 in and weighs 183 lbs, so not very big. he was considered a first round talent--some even had him as the #1 wr in the draft--but then messed with that slow time, not telling the truth, and doing poorly on the wonderlic test [he doesn't come off as very bright when he speaks, but he needs to be football smart, don't know if he is.] he was a honorable mention all-state bball player in h.s. too. go ahead and google him.
smith will be a great move the chains, find the hole guy, with very good smarts. he ran a fast 4.44 at the combine, so he has more speed than you think. he is listed as 5 ft 11 in and weighs 195 lbs.
moss could be effect if used properly, but don't count on him ever becoming a starter cuz he is too small--5 ft 8 in (generous) and 185 lbs. but he is shifty and fast. i've seen from 4.33 to 4.41 in 40, but mostly 4.38.
hixon is the tallest at 6 ft 2 in and weighs 195 lbs [now]. i saw that he only ran 4.55 coming out of college, but we know he is faster. read this article when he was in denver:
"The funny thing is he's 6-foot-2 but he can run like crazy and then he can stop on a dime," Bailey said. "I mean, you don't see a lot of receivers who can do that with blazing speed like he has."

Smith is fast but he can't break away for the big yards after the catch. I went to USC and saw him play A TON. He is one of the best possession receivers I have ever seen. Xtian is right on the money. Manningham has big play talent but his smarts and inconsistency will make his development slow. Hixon really does have elite talent. I think Reese/coughlin see this.
James Butler has agreed to terms on a four-year deal which could be worth $17 million to play for Spags
That is one "overpaid safety".
i'm very glad that butler got his payday. he's a good dude. spags will use him like another coach and that's worth it to stl. he'll probably start for the 1st yr, maybe 2, and then see his playing time reduced. he can still play good special teams.
