Browns 35 Giants 14

The main problem this evening was that the anchor of the defense (its pass rush) was not present. We had seen this to a degree in the Bengals game, when the blitz was not effective in H2 of Cincy. But here, Anderson had all day all game. The Browns mixed in some misdirection just to keep the Giants off-balance, and the result is that even those 8 zillion penalties were never a problem, as we could not stop them worth a lick. The Manning INTs were certainly a problem, costing the gmen plenty. But that won't be the long term issue- the longer term issue is whether the defensive line is just having a bad evening or there is something more. When the DL is ordinary, our weakest unit on the team (LB, and certainly exacerbated by Pierce's injury) cannot support them enough. The Browns came to play, the Giants made enough mistakes to lose, NEXT. Spags has a lot of work to do in figuring out what has happened in the Bengals (second half) and Browns game to stop our pass rush.

Misc- Webster is playing very well. Why did Jacobs hold the face mask on the blitz pickup? The Giants did not need a hurry up but they could have moved to the huddle and line of scrimmage to pick up the pace a little bit more. I like to see Manning run once per game, it was a nice one to move sticks in Q3.

Summary: DL pressure, Eli's eyes. Every week is Super Bowl week for our opponent, welcome to the world of defending a title.

Yes the DL put no pressure on Anderson but that loss was no Eli. The first 2 pics should have been 14 points, the last pic could have been another 7 and they where down to the 3 and at minimume that 3 more points for a total of 24. Take away the 7 off the pic and giants will going away.

The picks sucked but the Giants were completely outplayed. Congrats to the Browns.

This outcome didn't surprise me that much, the Giants had a loss coming, and this happened to be it, the upside is that is was an AFC loss on the road (what, you thought they were never going to lose a road game ever again?) so it doesn't hurt all that much. They go 3-2 in the division and they win it. All they have to do is regroup, beat the shit out of the Niners, and all is well.

I was about to make this into another post, but it is not... it is the same story as mentioned... it is the defensive line and Eli.

Coughlin said the Giants were not physical enough. Agreed. Ross played a bad game in part because he is used to his line gtg more pressure and forcing QBs to release the ball a lot sooner. Everyone talked about that during the past 9 games, that everything flowed from the defensive line. Without it, the team crumbled and was exposed. All that needs to happen is for the defensive line to put the pressure on again and things will get back to where they are. If that does not happen, then that is (as mentioned in the post) the longer term issue.

Eli's picks? We have seen those before, we know exactly what they are all about.

We rushed the ball well and defended the run pretty well. It was amazing, now only did Anderson have all day, but the receivers were WIDE OPEN. except for the 2 Edwards' touchdowns (Ross getting beat and then hurting his hammy) I dont know how these guys were getting so open. Nobody stepped up on defense. I saw one big tackle from Danny Clark that saved a touchdown, but I think they scored eventually. Better to get beat like this earlier than later.

yes, the DL gave little pressure and the rare blitzes were picked up. i believe spags was playing it conservative because the giants thought their offense would continue to score as they stopped themselves more that the browns stopped the giants.

i did not understand why the gmen slowed down once they got into scoring position down 26-14. regardless of some great ward runs, i don't know why bradshaw was not used at the end since we needed homerun potential.

the browns played a great game while the giants did not. still the giants could have won if eli makes a couple of better/quicker passes. now the giants know they have to bring their A game to win.

Browns just beat us period. Sometimes you need a good ole fashioned butt kicking and that's what we got. Problem is Pierce has lost 2 steps in coverage. Ross had his worst game as a pro, it happens and we will bounce back. I think this is just what Coughlin needed to get the team focused again. Past years most Giants fans would be really concerned. I don't think that's the case now.
