Boley battery

Michael Boley will serve a one game suspension at the start of the season.

Once we get past the shock of a new player already getting a suspension, in the grand scheme of things this does not have to be anything that affects the team greatly. For starters, it happened over a year ago when Boley was a Falcon. Second, Boley is in rehab after hip surgery and will not be effective at that (early, W1) juncture anyway.

In a larger sense, you simply cannot ignore all of this reprehensible conduct. We are reminded of the George Young quote which seems to accurately sum up football players: "We are not in the business of well-adjusted human beings." Be it Burress, Stallworth, Vick, McNair, Leaf, Ingram, Boley... the list never ends. In fact, there is one site that has a regular PARADE of players on the police blotter. So we'll casually dismiss the Boley battery in Giants terms, but we can never ever dismiss it in human terms.

If this happened over a year ago, why is the punishment being addressed now?

He probably wouldn't have played the first game anyway due to his injury but it seems strange to me that the suspension comes at the beginning of this season.

Furman, glad to see you're a member of the PFT planet. Your blog and PFT are my daily stops for NFL news.

Coleman- Thanks for visiting this blog. Lots of people like to take digs at Florio, but he is tireless and his information has a good track record for reliability. To be fair, it is his job, and this is not mine. PFT breaks a lot of stories.

Mitch- Sometimes the Commissioner's office gives the benefit of the doubt to the player w/o a disciplinary history and lets them sort it out first. Even in #17's case, Goodell held back until now. Granted the Giants made his job easier by suspending him themselves. Just consider the Giants 'lucky' that the suspension gets served when he is still getting back on the field from this hip injury, not in Nov or Dec when we will need him.
