Wonder

Rey Maualuga has a shot at falling all the way to the Giants in the draft.

Curry the real deal.

Re Cushing .. ALL the USC linebackers (Cushing, Maualuga, Matthews) are good!

Stay away from Laurinaitis.

This year's draft is not nearly as strong as last year's.

Jacobs was a good signing.

Giants made a big mistake in not signing Ward. (Shout out to Bob, I'll give you Round 1! Round 3 is when #44 gets the ball.)

Wouldn't be shocked if Ward is back but would prefer not. Gilbrown would go back to his comfort zones and we will never get a chance to see what #44 can do. There appears to be no market for Ward as Denver doesn't appear to be interested and Cincy really wants Benson back instead. Only team left that I hear of is the lowly Lions.

Canty would be the better option but I wouldn't mind Bernard for a good price. He certainly would be better than McDougal or Wynn. One last player I hope Reese looks at is Sanders the Safety from NE. We need depth and more experience back there.

Couldn't agree with Wonder more about Laurinaitis after watching the worst major conference in 1A, the Big Ten. I hope Reese is aggressive and trades up to get Maulaluga if he does fall. Hard to believe that Belidick as well as Denver would pass on him knowing their history of drafting LBs.

Signing Canty would make our D a major force, once again.

What is holding up Jerry Reese ?
This could be a season altering trade.

i hope ward signs for big bucks somewhere cuz that will be great for him and the giants to get a supplemental draft pick next year--unless we sign too many fas. i want to see bshaw and ware run the ball.

i would rather have canty too.

i never worry about reese overpaying, and that's very comforting.

Cassel to the Chiefs. Haley's back on track with a top QB in the making.

top QB in the MAKINg? Randy Moss and Wes Welker wont be walking in to ARROWHEAD with him, EVERYONE is jumping the gun a lil on MATT Cassell, he is OK at best....

50-50 on some of WONDERS thoughts... there is NO CHANCE that we miss WARD. people over rate this guys, he is decent, but him leaving us will not effect us one bit (same thing i said about G.Wilson last year)

i agree about the Ohio Stae LBer, he looks too regular to me. Clay Matthers Jr. will be a pass rusher and Mualaluga will be a beast, Cushing looks good but i like the other 2 better, i think LARRY ENGLISH might be a GOOD outside guy also

Sorry to disagree. Ward led the team with 1400 yds from scrimmage last year, as a BACKUP RB. He was #1 in yds/carry and #4 in receptions on the team.
Had as many yds receiving as Boss.
He singlehandedly destroyed Carolina in OT. The combination of him & Jacobs & the O line was WHY we were #1 in the NFL in rushing during the regular season. Hell, we
could probably use him effectively in the slot as a receiver.

With Jacobs tendency toward injury,
I feel paying Ward $4M is cheap insurance for remaining #1 in the league in rushing. I like #44, but
don't think he has Ward's overall talent. The coaches obviously agree.

If we only had a big stud WR.

Rocky Bernard agrees to terms with Giants: http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2009/02/new_york_giants_and_defensive.html

I hope the free agent signings are the right thing. Canty might've been better as he is younger, but I doubt the Giants are going to actively pursue him.

It seems obvios that the Giants will probable go for a LT in this draft in the 1st round.

They have strengthen the defense and now it is time to improve the offense.

WE STILL DONT HAVE A SS, stop sayin OT, saftey is an actual need nobody seems to realize, even if we keep Butler we need a SS much more than OT depth.

On a side note, the eagles lost 3 guys from their secondary.

Safety is not the skill position that OT is. With deference to the many here who silently ignore Safety, Knight never contributed significantly last year and we have stated the pros/coms of Butler... it will not take a lot to fill in (read: MATCH) that need. All you need to say with regard to OT is "Boothe" to know that the Giants need an upgrade. McKenzie has been a warrior but he is showing his age. We have discussed Diehl at length, who despite having a very good year, is not a true Tackle.

Phillips and Johnson only have "16 starts," but each has seen a great deal of playing time. For sure, they both need help, and an upgrade would be nice. But the game is won and lost at the line of scrimmage. Reese will fill the roster needs of Safety, just like he did last year when he drafted Phillips and signed the veteran Knight. Given that we have a #1 entering his second year back there, the Giants are fine back there. Not great, fine. Besides, with a guy like Boley being able to cover the Westbrook on 3rd down, Phillips/Safety can be used for normal duty.

I hear you Andy, but we need some depth at safety, and Butler is a known commodity. I say we should hold on to him.

Craig said...

My point is this, why get a backup OT which i agree fully we need, when there is a starting job with no one to fill it yet. With the undersized LBers the run defense may not be as solid so a SS is a bigger need.

Im not saying we need Bob Sanders but we need better than Butler, if we do that we go from a good secondary to a lethal secondary, and i remember the days we could only pray for a good secondary (post sehorn)

As for Knight, Reese just got a cheap guy to put the uniform on. He was so past his prime he was in his prime for Senior PGA. If we got Darren Sharper for say 2 years, and draft a guy in the second round who can wait and study we will be set for a while. but the draft is only deep at OL, WR, LB so thats why im saying we could get a good OT at the end of the 2nd round. SS we cant assume that.

Craig said...

So if we dont get an OT in the second round no biggie bc its only a backup job for now. If theres no SS to draft we'll be screwed unless we get a solid player, there are a bunch of good S free agents

I think we are on the same page. Reese will turn his attention to S as soon as he is done with wave 1 of free agency. I too want an upgrade over Butler, but just as an example, St Louis and him were apart on the money... so the Giants could get him as a cost-effective backup/rotation guy. Reese dealt with the needs at S last year and he'll get to it.
