A few comments about this 3-0 team

Did you notice that the Giants are 3-0? Nice. Hmm, let's see who they beat.

a) the Redskins, who BARELY BEAT the Rams (0-3) 9-7 and then proceeded to lose to the Detroit Lions! So this is a 1-2 Redskin team that has barely escaped after facing teams that are 1-5. Not impressive.

b) the Dallas Cowboys, who beat the TB Bucs (0-3) and barely beat the Carolina Panthers (0-3). If Steve Smith does not cut off his route in Q4, Newman does not get that pick 6 and the Panthers can potentially (not likely, but possibly) march down the field to win the game. In Jerry's Palace. In Dallas.

c) the TB Bucs (0-3), who beat nobody.

This is not the Giants fault that they have not faced greatness thus far. And it is not the Giants fault that the teams they have faced have not faced greatness thus far either.

All the Giants can be right now is 3-0. WHICH IS PRECISELY WHAT THEY ARE. We simply have to recognize that this 3-0 team we are rooting for has not yet played a very good football team yet. We as fans must be sober and recognize that our team has a lot ahead.

Playing TB, KC and OAK is paradise for a team that needs to heal and come together. On the job training for guys like Rouse and CC Brown. Work Study for guys like Bruce Johnson. It's a shame that guys like Nicks and Sintim (OUR #1 and #2 picks, for heaven's sake!) have been out! What an oppty to get snaps.

Without showing too much disrespect for the Chiefs and Raiders, these next two games can be preseason warmups for the team if they do not look past them. Or else, yes, in THIS CASE, they will be trap games. Take care of business. Improve. Get healthy. And get ready for tougher opponents now by simply executing fundamentals better every game. Today Francesa called the Giants an "elite team." Maybe. In due time. Enjoy it all, one week at a time. I love Kansas City Barbeque.

You can only play who is on your schedule. Is that cliche? Of course...

So, having said that...being 3-0 is exactly what we should be. Looking back, if we had lost to Dallas....then 2-1 would have been very disappointing knowing what we know now about Dallas.

So...what do we really know about Big Blue?

We know that we have the ability to play any game the other team wants to. If they put 8 in the box...well, we can beat you with our passing game. If the opponent play it straight up we will pound you on the ground. You want to blitz from the secondary or send an extra LB....we have a QB and the receivers who will quickly recognize it and adjust accordingly.

Defensively, early on we have shown big play ability with 2 TD's in 3 games.

We need to get healthy. Let me say that again. We need to get healthy.

The fact that we are not whole right now leads me to believe that we will not approach these next two games loosely. We are not healthy enough to fall into the "Trap Game" syndrome. TC will not allow it. He could be the most detailed oriented coach in the league.

It seems we might be getting some players back this week. Today, let us see who practices.

Our schedule gets REALLY tough beginning with Week 6!!!!

I don't think we will look past these next two...I really don't.

"One week at a time" as Andy says should be our mantra.

but Andy.... although Kansas City BBQ is great...I can't help but take a peek at November 1st. I, as a fan can do this.. .the players cannot.

That will be our first "BIG GAME" for sure! That is when some "roasted eagle" will be on our menus.

I went to an intro to Yoga class last night and we did many things, including stretching our hamstrings. When I told the instructor that the Giants had seven players who at one time or another had hamstring problems, she jokingly (all humor is based in truth) said it's because they aren't in here taking her class. When class was over we talked about it more and she was dead serious in saying that there is no way people in their 20's should be having hamstring problems, no less ATHLETES in their 20's. The matter of fact professional certainty she had to offer about that was stark. And the large numbers (8 if you count Rocky Bernard, who had the problem before training camp on his own watch) make it obvious that someone dropped the ball.

If Ronnie Barnes was not still with the team I would give what is being said about the training staff more weight. I just can't believe that he would allow this to happen on his watch.

Football players do extensive weight training for strength. That will always bulk up the muscle and because of that they are susceptible to muscle pulls and hamstring strains.

The hamstrings are frequently injured while an athlete executes a sudden, explosive movement, sometimes accompanied by a change of direction.

That is precisely what football players do.

We all know that Ronnie Barnes is considered tops in his field and stretching is also part of the training regimen.

In general terms, athletes in their 20's probably are not as susceptible to that injury, but we are talking about professional football players here.

Therefore, I do not know if the Giants dropped the ball here. It just might be more of a occupational hazard or a matter of coincidence of the amount of hamstring injuries this season.

the nyg are very cautious about injuries and look for the long term. i trust they will handle this rash of injuries appropriately. they do a lot of stretching.

considering how short handed we are on the dl, wr, secondary, and maybe ol, we have done well.

at this moment not worrying too much. we want to peak in dec-jan.

News on Jacobs
From Ralph V's (Daily News) Wednesday live chat session.

" But I do think there's something wrong (with Jacobs). He doesn't look as powerful as he used to be. Just a few minutes ago I asked TC what he thought Jacobs problem was. His answer " nothing I want to talk about here (in the press conference). My translation (Ralph V's) of that is there is SOMETHING going on with Jacobs although we don't know what yet.Whatever it is, he's not barreling over opponents the way he used to. He doesn't seem as aggressive as he once was. And if he's lost that power & aggression,he;s lost the two things that made him the most effective"

Cool that you're taking yoga, Andy. You have many happy years of frustration ahead of you! (Kidding. Sort of.)

Regarding stretching, maybe Giants trainers aren't up on the latest thinking, which goes like this (from an Oct. 2008 New York Times story):

"Science, however, has moved on. Researchers now believe that some of the more entrenched elements of many athletes’ warm-up regimens are not only a waste of time but actually bad for you. The old presumption that holding a stretch for 20 to 30 seconds — known as static stretching — primes muscles for a workout is dead wrong. It actually weakens them."

In regards to Bob's comments about Jacobs, many of you have probably seen Darryl Johnston elaborate on his Sunday comments in the New York Post:

"That's a guy who's looking for the home run, a guy looking for that big play. ... I've got that big contract, now I’ve got to live up to it. I need to be ripping off 35-, 40-yard runs week after week. That's not happening, and all of a sudden there's that tendency to try to make something big when it's not really there."

Johnston's really perceptive about this. There's more:

Believe it or not the NYG currently lead the NFL in passing defense and are second in total defense.

Not bad with a bunch of banged up players on the D ,even against weak opposition.

Adams was fined $7,500 for kicking Julius Peppers.

This is the third straight game in which Adams was fined.

Do you think it's time to start suspending him instead of these bullbrown fines?

What a joke....
