A few weeks ago I repeated a rumor here that I had read elsewhere that Cushing and Matthews, USC linebackers, had tested positive for A-roids at the combine. This is what the Star Ledger published today: "The story, which was reported on NFLdraftbible.com, was proven false this week when neither Cushing nor Matthews was on the NFL's list of failed drug users from the Combine."

I'm glad to see the story was wrong.

thx. that is better for the Giants, as they would have passed on them otherwise. If they cannot get Edwards, it means it is still possible (depending upon how strong their desire) for the Giants to trade up for one of them... 25 years and counting for a LB in the 1st round. Maybe this year?

DHB? With question marks I would rather they didn't take him with their first pick.

If they're looking for speed the Giants could wait 'til later and grab 6'1" 199 lbs. Mike Wallace from Ole Miss. 40 at the combine - 4.28.

I am sorry but if Maualuga drops to 14-15 he is more than worth it to trade up for. Relinquish the first 3rd rnd pick or even the late 2nd pick. Guys like him don't grow on trees. A pure football player and tackling machine. WRs historically are too hit or miss and what I have read about HBY doesn't entice me to trade up for.

Neither Sanchez or T Jackson are on the "will draft" list, are they?

Titans in the picture?

Mike Reinfeldt, the Tennessee GM, said Thursday he has talked to some teams about the availability of some veteran wide receivers. It would not be surprising if one of those teams is Cleveland and one of those receivers is Braylon Edwards.

Reinfeldt did not want to disclose the names he has asked about, but reportedly there is a third team in the Edwards picture in addition to the Eagles and the Giants. Tennessee may well be offering its first-round pick, the No. 30 choice right behind the Giants, for a veteran wideout.

The Giants have yet to put their No. 1 on the table and if the tea leaves read right, Jerry Reese isn't about to do so. That could change, however, as the deadline draws near. True, the two sides have not talked much if at all since that early discussion around the time of the Combine. But it would take only one call to rekindle the discussions, so to say the Giants are out of it may be a bit premature.

But they are playing from behind. Whether the reported Eagles package that included CB Sheldon Brown and OL Shawn Andrews is a legitimate offer is not certain. But Philly does have an interest in Edwards.

So we'll have to see how it plays out. Other teams could emerge as they find out they won't be able to solve their wideout problems in the draft. The rapid descent of Percy Harvin and Hakeem Nicks has dwindled the solid first-round contingent to there, Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

So Edwards, Anquan Boldin and even Chad Ochocinco may become bigger targets before 4 p.m. Saturday arrives.

Edwards to the Eagles?

A report out of Cleveland says the Browns are scheduling a late personal workout Friday for Maryland WR Darrius Heyward-Bey. Now Cleveland picks 5th in the first round right now, and Heyward-Bey certainly is not the fifth player in this draft.

But he may be the 21st player. So this fits into the rumor out of Philadelphia the Eagles are willing to trade unhappy CB Sheldon Brown, OL Shawn Andrews and their first-round pick, No. 21, to the Browns for WR Braylon Edwards and that No. 5 pick.

Which, if it happens, would be a great deal for the Eagles.

If the rumor is true the Giants certainly will not be able to match the offer for Edwards, even if they got the No. 5 pick thrown in. So while reports the Giants no longer are interested in trading for Edwards might be a little premature at this time, chances of landing the veteran wideout grow less and less every minute.
