Motown finds a Michigan guy

Motown woke us up to a Michigan guy. His name is Carl Banks, and he called out Kevin Gilbrown on everything, even at two points by name. He speaks to the issue of rhythm that Wonder stresses. He speaks out to ALL the things we ALL said on Sunday night. He speaks out to all the things we said in the recap.

"From an offensive standpoint they need a defibrillator, because there is no rhythm to it. Not making use of their short and intermediate passes with their backs as well as they should. They are getting beat with the same thing they should be beating other people with."

Get a back in the flat. Move the chains. It is about moving forward. Stay in manageable yardage situations.

"Now comes the time to make the adjustments. When Eli had time to throw the ball, they were coverage sacks. Everyone is downfield and no one down short to dump the ball off to."

paraphrased.. "They put Bradshaw in as a WR, they did a slip screen... Not that huge of a challenge because of the talent they have. They've got more than enough. They've got guys with skill sets that they just have to find ways to utilize."

"It wasn't like they didn't know (that they would be without Plaxico and Brandon Jacobs)."

(quoted and paraphrased..) "How do you offset pressure? You have backs that can catch the ball. They have the same types of players as the ones beating them the past two weeks. Ward and Bradshaw are not as good as Westbrook but they are better than Choice and Barber and can do ALL of these things."

"I don't make a big issue of critizing Offensive Coordinators. WHAT IS MISSING IS THE UTILIZATION OF THE SHORT PASSING GAME TO TAKE SOME PRESSURE OFF THIS QB. YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO COUNTER THAT (PASS RUSH) AND THEY HAVE TO LOOK AT HOW TEAMS ARE ATTACKING THEIR DEFENSE. IT IS THE SAME METHODOLOGY AND THEY HAVE THE PEOPLE THAT CAN DO IT." Garrett 20 Gilbrown 6. Wake the brown up.

Somebody mentioned in the comments the other day that he hoped Al Davis would hurry up and hire Gilbride to get him out of town. If the offense keeps performing the way it has the last 2 weeks who in their right mind would hire Gilbride?

(Jeeze, I stepped into that one.)

The answer to the above question:
Al Davis, who isn't in is right mind. (maybe)

I think in the same set of comments someone else mentioned that Coughlin has a lot of loyalty and wouldn't move to get rid of Gilbride. Coughlin fired the defensive coordinator that created the space for Spags to move into. The problem with Gilbride is he won a Super Bowl which makes his situation different than Lewis' plight.

I was hoping space would open up to hire Norv Turner after this season. As they say in the South it 'might could' happen. Turner would have to be the luckiest guy on the face of the Earth to keep his job after this season. But you never know.

as bad as a head coach Norv is, he is a total 180 as a O-Coordinator...the G-Men getting him would be the ultimatedreamscenario.com for me...Look at the guys history with QBs and look at the balance of the offenses he ran. i have no way of knowing, but i would bet ELI hasnt learned a WHOLE bunch from that TOOL

Regarding my 10:28 comment I should have spelled out I wanted Turner as Offensive Coordinator.

trust me Ox ive read enough of you comments to know you have WAAAAAY more sense than that...no one would want NORV as a HEAD guy!!!

agreed, norv peaks at oc and makes a lousy hc. gilbride is pedestrian, but coughlin obviously likes him. i wouldn't be surprised if gilbride is replaced next year unless he makes some adjustments.

To Nature & Oxbay...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I know for a fact that Norv Turner is not going anywhere next year. The owner has completely absolved him for the Chargers poor season. He will be the HC there next year much to our dismay.

and just to get it out of my system for today...let me say....

BROWNING GILBRIDE!!!!

There I feel better.

the Gmen are testing out joe horn....he can bring some spirit if he can get a catch or 2 he has intensity..dont know if he can to more than that....old guys can always run routes well read coverage and catch...just dont look for ANY speed at all

also reggie bust(bush) is out for the season. can anyone say better second round pick!!!

Mitch said...

The Giants decided not to sign Horn. ( no explosiveness )

...and after he left...he also forgot his cell phone.

I think he left it under the goal post. I've got the number if you need it.

COACH COUGHLIN'S MESSAGE
"It is an exciting week. We look forward very much to this opportunity to play against a very, very good Carolina team. And we look forward to that challenge. And it will be a great challenge, but we are excited about playing this game at home and having our fans here and being the 12th man, so to speak, to help us very much in our quest to win." - COACH TOM COUGHLIN

I take that message as saying to all Giants fans to take a nap on Sunday so you will be in full force and have a high energy level at night. Also...please don't give your tickets away.

Just to show we are'nt living in a bubble on this blogoshpere. ESPN Matt Mosley per Gs running game:

"for some reason, Tom Coughlin does not trust Bradshaw enough to get meaningful carries. That's the guy who needs to touch the ball more. HE'S A GAME CHANGING PLAYER who touches the ball 3-4 times a game."

The Panthers will be a classic challenge of a hot team playing their best football at the right time vs a better team slumping at the wrong time. The Giants need to adapt their offense to the players they have right now. As this blog has pointed out repeatedly, and as so clearly stated by Carl Banks, you need to adjust your offense to what you are capable of accomplishing. The funny thing, if they have some success with the short dump offs to the RB and the screens, it will make everything else more effective. BTW, I hope Mackenzie's back is better in time for the game.
