Papa's perspective

I listened to Bob Papa's "Perspective" this past weekend, decided to shelve his remarks until midweek because it was not going to be 4 or 5 days that was going to make his ideas out of date. Indeed, they only made them MORE relevant.

"This team has one of the most unbelievable temperaments I have ever seen from a NY Giants football team. That is counting the 1986 Giants and the 1990 Giants. It is very businesslike. It is very focused. It is very single-minded in their approach."

Pretty strong words from Mr. Papa, who is NOT known for hyperbole. When he says something like this, it is money in the bank intangibles talking, the kind of intangibles that separate the men from the boys, the championships from the also-rans. I listen to his commentary almost all the time, and rarely does he offer something like this. It means that this team, barring a string of injuries (and/or loss of Pierce), is in a very good place to remain on task for winning the title.

Interesting question: The Giants could wrap up the NFC East this week, first round bye next week, and homefield the following week.

That would leave two games where they have nothing to play for.

Rest the starters? Or keep going?

In order to "wrap up" the homefield advantage in the next two weeks, the Giants would have to win both games while both Carolina and TB lose one. Since Carolina plays TB this week, one of them will get that 4th lose. The winner of the Carolina, TB game must lose one other game. In week 15, TB goes to Atlanta, and Denver goes to Carolina. However, if the Giants win 3 of their next four, they will also guarentee home field advantage throughout the playoffs no matter what anyone does. Frankly, I think the mindset in 18-1.

All this looking ahead scares me. As a life long G fan I don't take anything for granted.....can't we just talk about 1 game at a time and enjoy the moment!!!

Eagles are not the same team we played at the Linc. What I saw on T-day was vastly better. Granted AZ was definitely flat after their lesson from the Gmen, but the Eagle's key players performed up to their usual capabilities.

I would love to sweep the NFC east and hopefully knock the Cowgirls out.

The focus and chemistry is a testament to the coaching staff and leadership of this team< period>

I TOTALLY agree w. Motown.

One game at a time !

Last year,we were concerned about making the playoffs at this time.
In fact we had just gone thru a huge
whipping by the Vikes.

"Since the beginning of the year, since I started getting injured [in Week 3], this is probably the best I've felt." The speaker?

Anyone want to guess???? Like I said, this is a different team from when we played at the Linc. and a desperate team.

You have to worry about Pierce being able to keep his head in the game this Sunday. I wouldn't worry so much if he were playing any other position than MLB. But there, he needs to think, not just act.

i dont think where and when we play should not be a problem...we know we can go on the road and win it all...as long as we get a first round bye i think there is no let down and the play-off run should not be hindered as long as we have a first round bye, anything else would be a let down

If #58 can handle the Deadskins game i think he should be able to deal with the EAGLES...imo i would think the first game would be harder to deal with....hopefully he goes home to that beautiful wife of his, do the sideways polka and forget about it at least for another sunday, clinching the NFC BEAST is step UNO

I know that we are due the 2nd round Saints draft pick this spring. I think it is also tied to the Jets. When the Jets traded Jonathan Vilma to the Saints, there was a clause in the contract that stated if Vilma plays in 80% of the plays that pick becomes a #1pick. Well, if the Saints continue to fall then I wonder if they hold out Vilma to keep that pick in the second slot. The reason I am talking about this is that I believe that pick was in turn traded to the Giants for Jeremy Shockey. Can anyone confirm this?.

BTW, Vilma is leading the team in tackles, so I believe he is playing at over 80%.

I think the trade works like this:

I would like to thank the Saints organization for allowing the NY Giants to possibly get their 1st round draft pick..this happens if Vilma makes 85% of his snaps because the Saints gave up a 2nd and 4th rounds picks for him to the Jets, and they gave the Giants a 2nd and 5th for Shockey. They can't give both NY teams 2 second rounder’s so if Vilma stays healthy and stays at 85% being that they traded Vilma first for a 2nd and 4th....the G-Men would get the Saints 1st round pick....

Go Vilma.....lol

But the Saints aren't that dumb...are they?

It is not going to happen..

Vilma has to sign a contract extension this year "before a certain time" AND get 85% of the snaps. That is the way the Jets get a #2, which would bump us to #1. But even if the Saints wanted to sign him, they would do it under the table, delay the signing and agree to sign him after the date.
