Ssshh, it's a secret, COREY WEBSTER IS PLAYING GREAT CORNER

It is a secret, but we have been saying for a while now that Corey Webster is playing great at corner. Need any evidence? How about this. #1 in the NFL in passes defensed. Nice company on that list. I am attempting to get more granularity on corner stats, ie yds per throw, % completions, but we know what we see.

Moss, Fitzgerald/Boldin, Mason, Jackson, Owens, Ward... he draws all of them, not every single play, but he gets the toughest assignment on almost all of the snaps.

On the blown up bubble screen this past week, that was Webster getting Pierce to alert everyone else of what was coming, thanks Justin.

Thursday Sep 4: "Webster played well."
Sunday Sep 14: "Webster and Ross were good."
Sunday Oct 5: "Webster/Ross. One looked better than the other."
Monday Oct 13: "Misc-Webster is playing very well."
Sunday Nov 2: "Quietly all year Webster has done a great job at corner."
Thursday Nov 6: "I got Wonder to concede that 'Webster is playing ok.' "
Monday Nov 10: "I know Webster got beat on one play late, but I really like the way he is playing."
Sunday Nov 23: "And then there are the players you simply do not hear from, like Corey Webster. The silence is deafening. He is anchoring the entire secondary right now because he is quietly shutting it down. Against the best."
Sunday Nov 30: "... and Corey Webster is making a big difference to the team on defense. The silence from his receiver (Santana Moss), yet again deafening."

Can you imagine how good this defense can be if Robbins can come back healthy?!!! Between that pass rush getting its swagger back when he gets that push up the middle to having a strong cornerback in Webster, this team will be very tough.

Andy, I agree 100% with you on Webster, and that is why the Giants will have to pony up and pay big bucks to have him next year.

I don't want to clutter up this new thread of the blog with Plax stuff, so please any of you interested please go to the previous thread to see that Plax has ruined the life of a low level ER physician, probably caused the night club to lose its liquer license, implicated Pierce, Ronnie Barnes etc.

I wonder if Reese signs Webster to a long term deal now, instead of when he has to. I don't know websters contract situation so I may be way off but it seems when you are proactive with guys like Tuck for instance you get great results.

Webster is a free agent at the end of the year as is Jacobs & Ward. Pastime, you are right last year Reese locked up Tuck before free agency and he might do that as well with Webster.

Now, hopefully, they can look to finish the business of the regular season. They need to take these next 2 games and complete a sweep of the NFC east.

This game will be tougher than last as Westbrook appears to be healthier and McNabb looks more like McNabb. They also won't have their nemesis Plaxico to account for leaving an extra body in the box.

I hope Gilbride his focusing on improving the red zone stats. Now that Plaxico is gone they need to look at other options for the jump ball fade. Maybe they need to get Darcy Johnson more involved?

I am not concerned about Reese'e strategy on signing Webster and Jacobs based on his track record. He'll get it done at the right moment....In Reese we trust.

A friend of mine had his 4th child days after the NFC Championship game last January. He and his wife had a big fight over whether he would be allowed to name the kid Corey Webster Blackin. He lost.

Andy,

i think you should have a post of how the Giants offense strategy should adapt to the loss of Burress.

Certainly you mention Boss being a key component in the passing game now.

how about more screen passes to Ward or Bradshaw to open up the field?

LSU, represent!

And to think that at the beginning of last season, Webster was benched for several games. As various members of the secondary got injured, he found his way back into the rotation and started to play like he needed, capping it off with the NFC Championship. Remember everyone talking about great Al Harris would be in that game? Instead, Webster was the star corner that night (and boy, did he get burned in the Monday night game against the Saints last week -- talk about overrated).

Sorry, that should be, "boy, did *Harris* get burned against the Saints..."

Thought everyone might want to view this article on the infamous Pisarcik fumble:

Well worth a read.

Shut down corners are a rarity in the NFL and if you have one, you better try to keep him. They must resign Webster, but he sa all the money Gibril Wilson got and so he will not be cheap.

Everyone here is right that Webster needs to get re-signed, but I am more concerned w Robbins simply gtg healthy. The future is NOW.

Separately, Reese stole Tuck. The Cap dollars exploded in Spring '08 and the free agents were pretty thin, thanks to people like Tuck gtg signed pre March. So it was too many dollars fighting for too little talent, and Tuck could have gotten ~ 2 or 3M more per year EASILY if he waited 2 months. The biggest reason? His AGE. Was a bonafide star, and still 24 years old! Locking him up was GI-NORMOUS.
